Is income received from scrap metal,
taxable?

The income you receive from the sale of scrap metal is subject to personal income tax (PIT) in Lithuania from the first euro. If a natural person sells scrap metal occasionally (i.e. does not engage in regular individual scrap metal sales activities), this income is subject to a 5% PIT rate. The calculation, deduction and payment of taxes are carried out by the buyer (i.e., a metal buyer), therefore the resident does not need to pay additional contributions. After the buyer submits data to the State Tax Inspectorate, information about the resident’s income from scrap metal appears automatically in the annual declaration.

When to choose delivery to a scrapyard,
and when to choose scrap metal
removal or a waste container service?

One of the most common questions our customers ask is: should they deliver their metal waste themselves or should they call us? The answer depends on the amount of waste, location and your capabilities.

Scrap metal in smaller quantities (for example, up to several hundred kilograms) will be gladly accepted by any Metruna metal buyer. Our network of branches covers most of Lithuania, so we guarantee that you will definitely find at least one convenient address located in one of 20 cities. If you do not have a vehicle suitable for delivering metal waste, we will offer free trailer rental.

If the amount of waste exceeds 2-3 tons, we recommend that you remove the scrap metal from your location. Our team will arrive at the specified location and take care of loading and transporting the scrap metal. This service is especially relevant for businesses, construction sites or other customers who do not have the opportunity to organize waste transportation independently.

Container rental is a particularly good solution when scrap metal accumulates gradually. We deliver the containers to the address you specify, leave them for the required time, and finally remove them. Services such as the removal of scrap electronics are also performed at the address specified by the client.

Benefits both the
environment and you

Less waste in landfills.

Greater return of secondary raw materials to the industry.

Saving energy and natural resources.

A more sustainable economy, environmentally friendly solutions.

Lower climate impact.

Scrap metal is not really waste – it is a valuable raw material. Therefore, buying up metal is not only a financially beneficial solution for you, but also a meaningful step towards a more sustainable world. Each kilogram of recycled metal reduces the need for new raw materials, and at the same time, the pollution caused by this process and the energy consumed.
The metal recycling company you entrust with your metal waste becomes part of the circular economy, contributing to a much greater impact: it reduces resource waste, promotes reuse and contributes to a more responsible attitude towards nature. So by managing your territory, you become an active part of the sustainability chain.

THE VALUE OF METAL RECYCLING FOR OUR
ENVIRONMENT: WHAT DO THE NUMBERS SAY?

What happens to the metal
that is returned for recycling?

When metal is delivered for recycling, its journey begins at metal purchasing points (buyers). There, raw materials are received, weighed, evaluated and sorted by type. Metal recycling is one of those rare processes in which a material can be recovered with almost no loss of its original properties. That is why proper metal sorting is extremely important. Metals with different properties – such as steel, aluminum, copper or brass – must be recycled separately in order to maintain their technical characteristics.

Having reached the buyer, the sorted metal travels to recycling centers, where it is shredded. This process helps to facilitate further transportation. Using magnets, optical sensors and current separators, metals are additionally sorted and cleaned of impurities, plastic or other unwanted materials. It is during melting that the metal regains its solid form – most often it turns into raw materials for production: sheets, rods or coils. These materials are then used in the automotive, construction, electronics and even household appliance industries. Some of the metal can return to the same product category, while some can be used for a completely new purpose – for example, an old bicycle frame can become an element of a building structure.

This entire chain – from purchasing the metal to turning it into a new product – is not only efficient, but also crucial for the circular economy. Since metal does not lose its properties, it can be recycled over and over again. This reduces the need for additional raw material extraction from scratch, and at the same time – reduces the environmental pollution caused by this process.
